HP Enterprise Cloud Strategy – HP Cloud Day

HP has been building the cloud for years just without actually naming it the cloud. They have also dedicated entire teams to help companies transition from local datacenters and server rooms into the cloud. With CIO requirements now leading to the need to transform and deliver the business processes with minimal costs, it is now crucial for the cloud to be considered. John Brownlow, HP Enterprise Architect listed the drivers HP sees to the cloud:

  • Provision faster/automate process
  • Better manage utilization/capacity
  • Ability to burst to external resources
  • Ensure security / enable audits
  • Enable app deployment
  • Support heterogenous environment
  • Integrate with ITSM stack

HP has developed a process to help companies make the move. They follow the acronym CvRSA

  • Consolidate
  • Virtualize
  • Rationalize
  • Standardize (Builds/OS/Apps)
  • Automate

Interesting Stats on how HP is leading the way

Once the decision has been made to move to the cloud, HP believes there are some fundamental elements that need to be addresses.

  1. Discovery: Cloud Discovery Workshop – A services offering from HP to help determine the path to the cloud possibly using CvRSA
  2. IT Operations: Cloud services automation, datacenter automation. Etc.
  3. Cloud System: The hardware to put it on
  4. Enterprise Cloud Service – Compute as a service
  5. Burst: How much will it need to expand to make your business work
